New Support for Tennis in Te Tai Tokerau

Sport Northland is all about enriching lives thorugh play, active recreation and sport and part of our role is to understand the play, active recreation and sport aspirations of local communtiies and then to connect capable providers to support participation opportuntiies that local people actually want.

With Jude having only been in the role a couple months, our Mid North Community Connector, Cheryl Smith, has been exploring many possibilities and introducing Jude to various communities.  So far, some tennis projects that have been identified include reviving the courts and the game alongisde local’s in Horeke and Otawa in the Hokianga. There is also a possibility of twilight tennis at Lindvart park in Kaikohe sometime in the future. If you are keen to be part of this and make these opportunities come to life, then please don’t hesitate to reach out to Jude.

Ko Jude Campbell ahau

My name is Jude Campbell and I am the Te Tai Tokerau participation coordinator for Tennis New Zealand.  I am a mum to three beautiful boys, Kaharau aged 11, Haumanu aged 3 and Torongārangi aged 1.  My partner Tāmati and I currently live in Kaikohe, however, we spend most weekends at our whare in Mitimiti, Hokianga.

I have many formal qualifications such as a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation from AUT University, a Diploma in Te Ronakitanga ki te reo kairangi, a Certificate in Adult Teaching and Rongoā Māori from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and I am currently studying a Masters Degree in Health, Sport and Human Performance through Waikato University.

I am passionate about education and te reo Māori and my partner Tāmati and I are founders and trustees of Tahunakura Charitable Trust and Taiao clothing.  We currently develop and deliver study wānanga for tertiary students who whakapapa to Te Tai Tokerau.

Tennis in Aotearoa used to be a popular game among many Māori and I am excited to be in a position where I can revive tennis in areas where tennis used to thrive.  I am also looking forward to working with existing clubs to help increase tennis membership in the area.

If you live in rural areas and play tennis or want to play tennis, please contact me on jude@tennis.kiwi or phone me on 0276466249.

Ngā mihi, Jude
