Have you seen the Waka Tākaro Play Trailer out and about in Whangarei? Check out the sheer joy and curiosity that is on the tamariki faces here
The trailer has been filled with sporting and play equipment to suit many ages. It will be available for community groups to hire later this year so watch this space.
Nat Wilcock, Sport Northland Play Lead says, “we know some of the best play projects are as simple as ‘stuff in a place’. If it is novel or sensory, it is likely to nudge our tamariki towards play. So, if anyone from across the motu, have items they could donate, it would help the many community play trailers and play boxes that are out there so much more exciting e.g. if any upholsterers have piles of leather cutoffs, builders and pallet makers with wood scraps, plumbers that have pvc pipes and connectors lying around, unused cargo net, cable reels, old car steering wheels, old baby car seats, milk crates, tyres hanging around your home – these all make great loose parts play. Basically anything ‘junk’ we would be glad to have it.”
Feel free to reach out to us here at Sport Northland, we would be happy to take your items off you 😊
